How to make Potent Cannabutter

Here is a how to make CannaButter and why you need to incorporate it into your daily routine

As legalization looms over Canada, marijuana and marijuana products such as CBD & THC pills, cbd oils and thc extracts have come flooding into the Canadian market. One of the most favorable and popular types of marijuana products are cannabis infused edibles. Canna-infused pastries, candies, and sweet treats are taking the Canadian market by storm. Although the legality behind edibles has a long road to finalization, edibles are deemed to be one of most sought after cannabis products thus far. Why? Simple, its discreet. You can enjoy the effects of THC & CBD anywhere (except handling heavy machinery of course…. Essentially the benefits of consuming cannabis infused foods are profound. Using marijuana in your cooking has zero negative side effects. In fact, consuming cooked marijuana has a completely different psychoactive reaction in your body than smoking it. When you ingest marijuana orally, it is first metabolized by your liver, which turns it into a completely different kind of THC than you get if you simply smoke it. This THC, 11-OH-THC, is more potent than regular THC (Delta-9THC), and leads to a more intense and longer-lasting high. Ideally people who ingest marijuana often experience a more intense and longer lasting full-body high than people who smoke it, usually inhaling marijuana the high will last around 2 hours or so. However, a high from oral ingestion can last anywhere from four to six hours. So, if you’re smoking medical marijuana for pain relief, cooking with it won’t just help locate and neutralize the pain you’re suffering from, but it’ll also provide more relief and for a longer duration of time. Therefore if you enjoy smoking marijuana, we at weedsmart highly recommend you try cooking with it. Majority of pasties and candies derive from Cannabis Infused Butter , Cannabis infused butter, otherwise recognized as cannabutter, is a primary ingredient in many marijuana-infused recipes. Technically infused cannabis butter is an ‘extraction’ because the cannabinoids and terpenes are extracted from the cannabis plant and infused into the butter’s fat. The butter from a normal recipe is then substituted with cannabutter to produce psychoactive effects. Cannabis butter is often used in decadent edible recipes (such as brownies) but ultimately depends on the cook and their personal preferences/ dietary needs. It can be made from dried cannabis buds, trim, solvent-less hash, or even sugar leaf. Cannabutter has been making its way into marijuana advocates kitchens over the past 5-10 years and slowly into cookbooks and now even mainstream media. How to make Potent Cannabutter

Here is 5 easy steps to make your own cannabutter at home.

What you’ll need: Ingredients

  • 1/4 ounce cannabis buds, finely ground
  • 1/2 cup (one stick) unsalted butter
  • Equipment needed to make cannabutter:
  • Medium Saucepan
  • Wooden Ladle
  • Spoon
  • Metal Strainer
  • Container (with a tight-fitting lid)

Method

Before proceeding to make cannabutter, it’s extremely important to decarboxylate your bud sample with heat, in order to create THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) from its precursor, known as the “acid” form. (This process happens automatically during the smoking of cannabis; unless you plan to roll and fire up your burrito, you’ll want to read on.) Don’t skip this vital process, or you will be setting yourself up for a depressing surprise when you find your cannabutter has a weak potency.

  1. Decarboxylation is easy: Just bake your sample at 250°F/120°C for ½ to 1 hour. This will both activate your cannabis and give it a roasted, nutty taste.
  2. Melt the butter on low heat in a medium saucepan.
  3. Add the ground buds to the melted butter a little bit at a time, stirring in between.
  4. Simmer on a low heat for 45 mins, stirring frequently. While simmering, you should see start to see small bubbles forming on the surface.
  5. After simmering, strain the butter into the container using the metal strainer to filter out the ground buds.
  6. Press the spoon against the ground bud in the metal strainer to squeeze all the cannabutter.

The cannabutter could also be placed in glass sealed jars or containers as it’ll leave a green tint from the cannabis plant. Now, you’re ready to make some cannabis-infused meals & treats! 1. Maybe its me, or the 5 different homemade cannabis butters I’ve tried… every one of them smelled and taste like butter and bong water… It made everythinģ unedible to me. I buy powerful edible oil and either take it straight or put it on whatever I want to eat… it has almost no flavour..
