Cannabis Cookies Made With Shatter

If you’ve joined the mass of people who have tried their hand at homemade cannabis-infused treats, you’ve probably realized the options are endless.

From making brownies with cannabis flower to using newly minted concentrates to make unique teas and coffees, people have found ways to use almost every cannabis product out there in their own way.

If you’re not familiar with the world of concentrates, you probably will be soon, and we’re here to help. There are hundreds if not thousands of recipes out there that use whole cannabis flowers in some type of baked good. But with so many concentrates on the market today, you can broaden your horizon with one of these products mixed in with your favourite cookie batter.

Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of using concentrates in your baking expeditions is these products typically lack the strong cannabis-like taste that comes along with cooking cannabis flower

Concentrates are also an easier way to make sweet treats because you won’t have to extract the THC from the flower. With concentrates, you just infuse your food by mixing it into any recipe you choose.

What Is Shatter?

Shatter is one of several concentrates available on the cannabis market today. Concentrates encompass a wide range of products that are concentrated blends made from raw cannabis flower. Because these are concentrated products, they are typically more potent than cannabis flower used for smoking. Many of these products boast THC levels that reach 80% or higher, although you can find products with a lower concentration if you prefer.

Wax and shatter are among the most popular concentrates available in dispensaries. For the most part, these two products are quite similar. They share almost the same consistency, and both will likely provide a similar result based on their concentration levels.

Shatter is made with butane that turns it into a solid instead of liquid, called butane hash oil which is one of the more common products in the world of concentrates. Many users say shatter will last longer than other dabs and other concentrates. Typically, shatter is a little tougher to make because of how tightly the molecules have to bond. Users say it’s not as easy to manipulate as wax, simply because of its consistency.

Dosing for these recipes can be simplified into one easy-to-understand formula. If you’re making a batch of 30 cookies and using a shatter with 80% THC, that’s .8 grams or 800 mg of THC that you’re adding to the batter. Divide that 800 mg by the number of cookies you are making and you’ll end up with a nice, even serving dosage of around 25-26 mg per cookie.

If you’re looking to step it up a notch, you can cut down on the amount of batter, so you’ll have a smaller number of cookies, or you can increase the amount of shatter you add to the mix. Remember, these products are highly concentrated, and they can pack quite a punch. With all edibles, take it slowly at first, especially if you’ve never tried them before.

Before you make your cookies, you’ll want to make shatter butter, which you’ll then add to your recipe in place of regular, boring butter.

Shatter Butter

You’ll need the following items and ingredients to make shatter butter:

  • 1 gram of shatter
  • 227 grams of butter
  • Oven-safe baking dish
  • Parchment paper
  • Torch or lighter for heating
  • Saucepan
  • Fork

Start by setting your oven to 100 degrees Celsius.  Tear out a sheet of parchment paper and line your baking dish with it and place the dish in the oven. Turn off the oven, but leave the dish in there for 20 minutes, while it cools.

While waiting, place the butter in your saucepan and warm it up until it melts.

When you remove it from the oven, lift the parchment paper and put it in the freezer for 10 minutes to let the shatter cool down quickly. This way, you can remove it easily from the paper.

Once it’s cooled, use your fork to lift the shatter off the parchment paper and hold it over the warmed butter. Use your torch or lighter to heat up the shatter slowly, so it can drip down into the saucepan. Stir the mixture until it’s blended completely. Then, place it in a container and set it in the fridge until it hardens.

After that happens, you’re ready to use your shatter butter in place of regular butter in your favourite cookie recipe.

For a little twist on this recipe, you can use 170 grams of butter-flavoured Crisco sticks, which you can use in place of butter to make some pretty amazing cookies.

Shatter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Shatter Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you don’t already have a secret family recipe for chocolate chip cookies, you can find a decent one just about anywhere. This recipe uses butter-flavoured Crisco, and in my opinion, makes the best cookies around. So, why not give them a try with your shatter and see what you think.

You’ll need the following ingredients to make these cookies:

  • 170 grams of shatter butter-flavoured Crisco
  • 340 grams of brown sugar
  • 1.6 tablespoons milk
  • .8 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 256 grams of flour
  • 5 grams of salt
  • 3 grams of baking soda
  • Chocolate chips

Mix the butter, sugar, milk, vanilla, and egg in one bowl and the flour, salt, and baking soda in another bowl. Combine the contents of both bowls and add the chocolate chips and stir. Cook these at 176 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes and voila!

Closing Thoughts

Making cannabis cookies at home can be a fun autumn and wintertime activity. Using shatter may be a little tougher than some other cannabis-infused products or raw flower. However, the concentrated formula will likely help you reach your goal in a short amount of time. Shatter cookies are a great way to enjoy your favourite concentrate with your favourite cookie recipe in one sweet treat.
